How to revive an old PC
Inquirer – Jun 23, 2007
Handy as aspare but frustrating to use because they feel sluggish. So they’re ideal candidates for trying out somethingdifferent like say playing around with Linux. Any PC that will run Windows 2000 decently will run any current Linux distro fine. f course wiping andreinstalling an old computer is always a good way to give it a boost but whereas the chore of reinstalling Windows and finding and reloadingall your favourite programs may put you off it’s much easier to just nuke it and put something totally differenton. But what about the generation before that? Early Pentium III or late Pentium II machines kit from around the turnof the century? Well under a decade old probably in perfect working order but it will struggle with a twenty-firstcentury S. Although there is the problem of declining support for older hardware in new versions you don’t want to run reallyold versions of Linux; relatively speaking it has poor hardware support for any hardware that post-dates it is poorlyoptimised with lousy installation tools and comes riddled with bugs and gotchas and glitches and securityvulnerabilities. (f course the same’s true of Windows and any other S too.

Here the Thing For about 2 weeks now my PC will reset itself when im doing nothing I shrugged it off because it didnt seem that important. Before this two weeks i had replaces the PSU becauseit had died ( i did the Paperclip test). With my new PSU (raidmax ATX 12v power supply) it worked pretty good despite the Resets but it shut down once before and i couldnt get it to boot. See my PC is custom so it doesnt have a Power "button" just the Switch on the PSU.
First Ever Christian Karaoke PC Game to Release

‘Heavenly Harmony’ cued up a song for me and analysed my pitch as I sang. Amazing!”The new creation features 25 of Christian music’s most recognisable songs – such as “Shout to the Lord” “I Can nly Imagine” “Praise the Lord” and “Amazing Grace” – of which vocalists can try their own renditions. The CD comes with a microphone that plugs directly into the computer making it easy for players to jump right into the songs. The game is meant for everyone whether professional or simply a member of the local church choir or even those who sing in their free time for enjoyment. “‘Heavenly Harmony’ provides features never before found in any computer game and the fact that it’s a Christian-themed game makes it even more exciting” explained Curtis Ratica the president of Cloud 9 Games in a statement. “Never before has there been a singing game that offers the type of feedback this game provides. The system works by placing contestants in a singing arena.

I highly recomand this laptop. Weaknesses:get the longer term battery and replace Vista S with XP pro SP2 you will get a better performance and longer battery life. verall Evaluation: This is a very well built computer it is light and truely functional. I like the AV mode when I don’t have to boot the pc when I want to play DVD or listen to my music. It is not a low voltage machine also it is a not a power hungary system either. It looks good and it runs very well. No glitches so far.

You can input details about your computer or your motherboard and it will tell you not only the type of RAM you need but also the max your PC can hold. That way you can maximize what you already have (and sell the old stuff on eBay) and get the max out of your limited memory slots. For example if your PC has two slots and can hold a max of 1 GB and you already have 256 installed you should yank out the 256 sell it and buy two 512s rather than install a 512 and leave the 256. If my computer has a round keyboard slot in the back do I have to use a round keyboard type of keyboard or can I use a USB keyboard? You can use a USB keyboard.

Everything works fine but they don’t see each other when I want to share files. Workgroup is the same on both of them. I can play LAN games PC shares internet connection and I can ping each computer. And that you’ve enabled sharing on a folder for this with the right permissions. Getting an IP address is the first step in networking. The second step is to get the exchange of data happening.

I hardly got a call the first week. So I knocked on doors and discovered the reason. Although some were having problems there computer wasn’t completely disabled. Since they weren’t dependent on it (it’s just a home computer) it wasn’t urgent to get it fixed. Also they wanted to see if they could find someone they knew who’s a big computer wiz to come voer and fix it for free. So they didn’t call me. But by knocking on doors I did convince some to book a service call… So any suggestions on how to increase my bookings? I hate going door-to-door but for now it’s the only way. Ididmyc60006-23-2007 06:10 PMHi Andy and welcome to the TS Forum :wave:Getting started in any business is hard work people dont know you dont trust you they dont like the idea of someone they dont know coming in and (possibly and I dont mean you here) ripping them off for a large cost and unless its an urgent thing like you said most will plod on with a dicky PC. Most of the bigboys use scare tactics to get people to get the PC in for repair this includes things like loss of data hacking attempts etc etc people get worried and think twice about putting it off. However people still will put their needs before the repair of a PC unless its important to them as a lifeline. Im fortunate in that the job I do brings me into contact with people who whilst I do my job often say " do you do Home PC’s as well" the trust is there straight away as we fix their ffice PC’s they know that i know my job and can be trusted. Am I honest ?? Yes i dont lie to people I do work for most these days are smart enough to figure out if your bullsh**ting them and there goes a good customer. Its a good idea to start with friends of relatives who have a PC and do a few jobs for free to start to show that you know the job word of mouth has always been the best form of advertising since the world began.
