Against the grain: The eco-friendly wooden computer that could spark…
Independent – Jul 18, 2007
Due to be launched in ctober it uses between 13 and 17 per cent of the energy of a standard desktop computer. And if it sells well it could spark a revolution reversing our ever-growing appetite for power-hungry gadgets. "There has been an increasing interest from the public for a green computer" says Peter Lyons of DSG International the parent company of PC World and Currys. "In the past environmental products have asked consumers to make a compromise. That’s why they haven’t been very successful – previous low-power units have performed very slowly so they can’t do as much as a standard computer. But this is going to have the same sort of power as one of the average units on sale at Christmas – and it will cost about the same too. " Lighter than a standard mini-tower the PC (which is yet to be named) is easily moved.

Buying used? Do more than take it for a spin

html Intrigued by the possibilities of writing on a computer the same way she would on a piece of paper my lovely wife recently bought a Tablet PC. As a psychotherapist she was drawn to this type of portable by the notion that she could jot down her case notes by hand and then be able to search them a feature of both the Windows XP and Windows Vista iterations of Microsoft’s Tablet PC software. The ever-elusive goal of a paperless office also appeals to her. Whenever I brought home a review unit of a tablet-based notebook she enjoyed playing with it. But she didn’t enjoy the idea of paying the premium most tablets command.

Does HP have the Midas touchscreen?

More impressive is that by HP’s reckoning the entire machine — from box to operational status — is supposed to take all of 20 minutes to set up. For this test run it took 17 minutes including joining a wireless network. The computer market certainly hasn’t indicated it will be wild for touch-sensitive screens — it has been very cool to the tablet PC — so it’s far too soon to predict the popularity of the HP TouchSmart. But the TouchSmart is handsome acts as a conversation piece and has obviously been designed with a great deal of thought and consideration to detail. HP’s clear intention is to move it from a desk and put it in a kitchen a living room or an entertainment room a move computer makers have been trying to make for years. And if there is a machine that can do it the TouchSmart is it. Certainly Apple and Microsoft with their gesture-recognition devices are also betting that touchy-feely computing will help them do that too.

I got this software for free after rebate. I have used many other softwares but this software was my worst experince. It was diffcult to install on my PC. No proper guideline or information in Infomation guide. My internet connection was broken down after installing this. I wasted lot of time getting this software work on my PC. I will not suggest anyone to buy this software… It plays havoc with the programs that I wish to use and will not allow a program to work until it completes running a scan (it takes forever). It has taken so long to let me use Yahoo IM that my friends logged off before I could get a window open to them. It takes so long to scan a page that I turned it off this morning so I could scan retailers to locate another antivirus program so what good is having it.
