Microsoft To Cut Vista Prices By Up To 50%
InformationWeek – Feb 29, 2008
the price for the full version of Vista Home Premium drops 44% to 131. 92 pounds from 233… Microsoft said Vista price cuts in emerging markets — where the company faces the most competition from open source software — will be as high as 48% in some countries. In lowering its prices for boxed copies of Vista Microsoft is hoping to entice the many thousands of everyday computer users whose systems still run Windows XP to upgrade their machines to its latest S. The bulk of operating system sales are driven by new PC shipments. Standalone copies “have been primarily from customers who value being early adopters and those building their own machines” said Microsoft Windows consumer marketing VP Brad Brooks in a statement. “We’ve observed market behavior however that suggests an opportunity to expand Windows standalone sales to other segments of the consumer market” Brooks added. Microsoft’s dominance of the computer operating system market has declined significantly in recent years as viable alternatives to Windows emerge. Apple for instance recently introduced its slick S X 10.

In Vista go to Start 6 Control Panel 6 Ease of Access Centre 6 Make Keyboard Easier to Use 6 Set up Filter Keys switch on “Bounce Keys” and alter the time delay. PC TV Q: I’m thinking of replacing my old CRT-style monitor with a new flatscreen model which incorporates a TV tuner. If I do will I be able to record TV programmes on my computer and turn them into DVDs? Neilsen Webster Northumberland A: Although most new plasma and LCD TVs are fitted with PC VGA input sockets most make poor computer monitors due to the way the panel is manufactured and the video information is processed. You won’t be able to make recordings from the TV’s built-in tuner unless your PC is equipped with a graphics card that has a video input socket or you purchase a video input adaptor. You will also need extra recording software and probably a video DVD burning and authoring application as well. My advice is buy a proper PC monitor and use a plug-in TV tuner or card most of which come bundled with video recorder programs. If possible get a USB Freeview tuner or “dongle”; prices start at under £30.

IBM Sells Another Batch of Lenovo Shares
BusinessWeek – Feb 29, 2008
According to a source more than 30 investors participated in the deal which was kept open for less than one hour after the market closed yesterday. The order book was said to have been comfortably covered. The sale represents the latest divestment of Lenovo shares by IBM which received a 15% stake in the Chinese computer maker as part payment for its PC unit in April 2005 and will see its stake fall from 8. The fact that the share price has come off substantially from its highs is unlikely to have worried IBM as the current price is still well above the HK$2. 675 at which it initially received the shares.
