PC: place it comfortably
Hindu – Feb 23, 2008
While the keyboards come in split designs for better key strikes and lesser finger effort the mouse is designed to reduce pressure on the carpal tunnel and the wrist. These ergonomic products are designed in view of their placement and also their usage. Moreover it would be appropriate to use an air conditioner if the PC is being used continuously. Generally lower temperatures are good for any computer. “In my opinion any temperature below 50 degrees is good for a PC. When the computer is being run on a temperature greater than 50 degrees then one should look for a better cooling solution” says Madhu Murthy a Computer Science student from JNTU. verall Evaluation: This product does an excellent job of calibrating monitors; much better than doing it by eye or with AVIA or DVD Essentials. If you have more than one screen to calibrate it is also much cheaper than hiring a professional. However and no manual is included and you need to be able to connect your monitor to computer running the software; it will not work on an older TV set without computer hook-up. Sensor takes a while to take readings of different images produced by the software: do not start this process unless you have 20-30 minutes to complete it.

Absolute power Q: My keyboard will not turn off when I shut my computer down and I have to pull out the mains plug to turn it off. The shop where I bought the PC says there is nothing wrong but others I have asked disagree. Can you help? Phil Stead by email A: This is not a fault: these days it is quite common for the mouse and keyboard to remain powered up. This allows the PC to be put into a sleep or hibernation mode and spring back to life when you press a key (or move the mouse).

first this is a tv with a vga input – it was designed as an hdtv not a computer monitor and it shows in its picture. with good signals the tv performs quite well. like most monitors these days the picture is bright and saturated out of the box (which i’ve lowered). the few hdtv channels i can pick up locally over broadcast comes in nice and sharp at 720i (1080 resolution is in the 22″ model). problem is when changing channels the tv is slow to react (takes about a second to kick in) and if the signal gets weak it has problems reconnecting… I don’t recommend it to be used as a standalone HDTV. I would typically consider 1080p for screen sizes bigger than 40″. Please keep in mind that Blu Ray is currently the only DVD technology that puts out a 1080p signal. Playstation 3 and XBox 360 gaming consoles both have 1080p games whereas Playstation3 is also a DVD Blu Ray player.

Weaknesses: Not Vista Compatible to me – not even listed on Roxio’s website as Vista-compatible. verall Evaluation: I purchased this software based on the How-To article in PC World’s March 2008 edition. According to both the article and the software specs it claims to be Vista compatible. However two attempted installs have both returned “Internal Error 2738″ messages the program will not finalize installation and will shut down if attempted to run. What S did the author’s computer run for his How-To article – perhaps that information should have been included… However two attempted installs have both returned “Internal Error 2738″ messages the program will not finalize installation and will shut down if attempted to run.
