Elgan: Sweet new service backs up while it syncs
Computerworld – Mar 21, 2008
But unlike backup services SugarSync takes those online backups and “pushes” them back down to your other devices including Windows PCs Macs and even some cell phones. A couple of weeks ago I wrote a column called “. They could I argued set up the wireless autodownloading of files and even PC configuration information to phones which could serve as the conduit for moving data from desktop PC to laptop to random PCs of opportunity found while traveling… Rather than automatically copying files down to the phone then back up to any PC you use SugarSync copies files up to the Internet then back down to PCs. Either way the synchronization is automatic and seamless which is exactly what mobile users are clamoring for. SugarSync also provides access to those same files when you’re on somebody else’s computer. You can use a personal Web site provided as part of your SugarSync account to access all your current files. It works with phones too ptional cell phone software gives you mobile access to all your files which you can view edit or send. It also auto-syncs your camera phone pictures with your personal SugarSync Web site so you can share them without any effort on your part. After you install the mobile application just snap pictures and they’ll show up online.

Sony To ffer Notebook Computers Without ‘Crapware’
InformationWeek – Mar 21, 2008
These pieces of software which can slow the performance of a new machine are often described as “bloatware” or “crapware. Computer makers often are paid to include such programs on their machines. Sony however came up with a clever idea: Launch a program called “Fresh Start” and convince customers to pay $50 to get a computer without the unwanted and unnecessary software… A Sony spokesman said at the time that the company had planned to roll out the option to the rest of its consumer notebooks throughout the rest of the year. n its online store Sony calls Fresh Start a “system optimization service” that removes software that could slow down a new Vaio notebook. “Fresh Start safely scrubs your PC to free up valuable hard drive space and conserve memory and processing power while maximizing overall system performance right from the start. Some reviewers complain that Sony is worse than other companies in pre-loading unwanted software. Consumer technology review and news site Engadget a part of the Weblogs Inc. network said Sony has.

Intel to increase availability of cheap laptops
People's Daily nline – Mar 21, 2008
execCommand(”saveAs”)>. PC makers in the United States and in Europe will sell a yet-to-be-unveiled second-generation version of the Intel-designed Classmate PC for $250 to $350 said Lila Ibrahim general manager of Intel’s emerging market platform’s group in an interview with Reuters. "This is a very big deal" said Laura Didio an analyst with Yankee Group who follows the personal computer industry. While the machines are intended for children analysts said the launch will add momentum to the low-cost computing movement – and will likely mean this year’s bargain-basement laptops will have more power than in previous years. "Particularly in a recession year quality low-cost products are going to move well" said Rob Enderle an analyst with the Enderle Group. "But the key is for them to be quality.

EDT: March Madness on Demand the free online streaming thing works beautifully for me when there are two good games going. I can have one on the TV and one on my computer screen. It’s hard for me to follow two games at the same time — it’s hard for me to follow one game at a time with my attention span and did I mention I’m out of butter? — but it’s possible. But the last 90 minutes or so have been a little more challenging because all four games have been worth watching. So one game on the box and one on the laptop has left me two games short. All late in the second half Miami has pulled away from St… Instead I’ve been trying to figure out how to watch three games at once on my computer. The answer: Get a different computer pal. I’m on a Mac and March Madness on Demand is designed to be used on a PC running Internet Explorer 6. That’s a browser that’s not even available for the Mac. So I can watch one game on Safari and one game on Firefox and maybe there are other browsers I could open up to watch the third game.
