You didn’t think you could attach a printer to your computer and it would just magically work did you? Well don’t be embarrassed if you did because that’s what most everyone thinks if they think about it at all. You should be able to use a computer without having to be a technician. Case in point Hauppauge’s WinTV-HVR-950Q USB TV tuner. Beneath all the model numbers this gadget basically lets you watch over-the-air television broadcasts – including high-definition TV – on your PC or laptop. The system has two parts: a tuner that plugs into a USB port on your computer and an antenna that plugs into the tuner to catch the TV signal. Both items as well as a thin remote control are included in the box ($99). Setup is simple and the instructions are clear. The guide recommends using a larger antenna – a roof-mounted model being ideal – but the virtue of the 950Q as it ships in the box is its portability. The tuner is the size of a chubby flash drive and the bundled antenna isn’t much bigger.
